January 2014

January can feel like a big anticlimax after Christmas, and your home can feel plain and drab without the festive decorations.  Now is the time to think of interior projects for the year ahead.  Whether its a vibrant new rug to brighten up a room, some colourful modern lampshades, or wallpapering a feature wall to add impact and dimension to a room.  Purchase an antique chair from an auction and have it re-upholstered in a fun, modern fabric.  There are lots of ways to bring about fresh ideas into your home. Perhaps you want to totally redecorate a room with wallpaper, curtains and cushions but are unsure where to start with the vast quantitiy of fabrics and wallpapers to choose from.  Let me take the pressure off you and source fabrics, provide inspiration via a moodboard for free and help create that wow factor.

Festive Foliage Decorations

Create this stunning mantlepiece decoration in just 30 minutes with minimal cost by using greenery from your garden.

You will need the following:

A rectangular watertight plastic tray, silver foil to protect your mantlepiece, 2 x oasis blocks soaked overnight, laurel, fir tree branches, ivy sprigs, eculyptus sprigs, fir cones with wire, baubles with wire, battery operated LED fairy lights and gold sprayed twigs.

Step 1: place soaked oasis in the rectangle tray butted together Step 2: begin to insert the ivy into the oasis at 45 degree angles
Step 3: next add the trimmed fir tree branches at 45 degree angles

Step 4: fill in any gaps with the laurel leaves and then add the eucalyptus at the front and sides making sure to hide the oasis

Step 5: randomly add the fir cones so they are not  all grouped together Step 6: add the baubles and gold twigs
Step 7: place the foil on the mantlepiece for protection when watering Step 8: add the fairy lights
Viola - finished and impressive

Going Monochrome

This month's topic is all about Monochrome. Comfy chairs with bold black and white patterns are all the rage.  In magazines and high streets alike these statement pieces of furniture are being surrounded by minimalist side tables, and bold block coloured accessories.  Orange is my personal favourite colour to compliment the monochrome look, but what is yours, and will you be channelling this adventurous trend into your own home?
